Digital Frontiers

A Living Lab data platform for Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Team LLDC, AWS

UCL CASA have been working with LLDC to create a data ecosystem called Digital Frontiers. The initiative aims to transform the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park into a “living laboratory” for data-driven innovation. It integrates real-time data from various sources to empower policymakers, startups, and local communities, focusing on themes of digital integration, inclusivity, and environmental sustainability. The platform’s ultimate goal is to become a replicable, open-source model for other smart, inclusive, and sustainable urban spaces worldwide.

A report, Shift Digital Frontiers, was published last year at the start of the project. The collaboration between LLDC, UCL and Arup synthesises findings from research and stakeholder consultations to inform a data and digital strategy, focusing on monetising data, digital trial standards, and infrastructure. The report proposed establishing a curated data marketplace and recommended creating a data management platform to centralise and standardise data from various park assets.

The Digital Frontiers data platform is the result of that work. Our goal was to align with smart city standards and address challenges such as data literacy and data sharing agreements, to improve trial efficiency and attract innovation. The platform was developed in collaboration with AWS
